Why paragliding at Gunung Bungsu is weather-dependent
Booking a paragliding day does not guarantee that conditions will be suitable for flying.
Wind, weather, visibility, operator readiness, guest readiness, and safety approval can all affect the final decision.
The final decision to fly follows the local operator and the conditions on the day, so it is better to keep the itinerary flexible rather than build several tightly timed activities around an assumed flight time.
What should you expect on the day?
On Calvoya’s current route, time at Gunung Bungsu includes coordination with the local operator, a weather check, a safety briefing, and preparation before any flying decision is made.
If conditions are suitable and the operator approves the activity, the paragliding section can proceed.
Wear comfortable outdoor clothing and suitable footwear, and bring sun protection. Any operator-specific weight or health requirements should be confirmed before the travel date.
What happens if flying is not suitable?
A no-fly decision does not necessarily mean the entire day has to be abandoned.
On Calvoya’s current route, the day can instead be adjusted around Gunung Bungsu scenery, Kelok Sembilan, and Harau Valley, depending on timing and conditions.

Should you start from Payakumbuh or Bukittinggi?
Both are possible on Calvoya’s current paragliding route.
Starting from Payakumbuh generally gives a lighter route flow because it is closer to the Lima Puluh Kota area. Bukittinggi is still a possible starting point, but the day’s timing needs more careful planning.
